If you want it to. Tell PYM where you went and when, and it looks through the trip photos day by day and picks the ones worth keeping. You tap to leave out what you do not want. Nothing prints without you.

Yes. Share one invite link and everyone adds their photos to the same trip album. The book holds the trip as all of you saw it.

From the places your photos were taken. PYM reads the locations already stored in them, so the map works for a trip that already happened and nothing is tracked while you travel.

Yes. Start the trip with its dates, and PYM finds the photos from that time in your camera roll. The book is laid out the same way.

The app and the album are free. A printed travel book starts from €27.95, depending on the format and the number of pages, and takes six working days to reach your door. You see the full price before you confirm.

Yes. Only the people you invite can see it. There are no public profiles, and your data is never sold, whether you pay or not.

How to make a travel photo book while you travel

The longer answers: travelling with friends, the map, how PYM compares with trip trackers, and what a good travel book contains.

A collaborative travel journal with friends or family

The best photos of a trip are on other people's phones. In PYM one trip has one album, and everyone you invite adds their photos to it as the days go by, from the airport to the last dinner. The link works from a browser as well as from the app, so the friend who never installs anything still adds their shots. Afterwards the book holds the trip as all of you saw it, not only your own camera roll.

The album stays private: only the people with the link see it, there are no public profiles, and nothing is searchable. After the trip it stays where it is, for the next time someone says "do you still have that photo from Lisbon".

A map of the trip, without tracking you

The map on the first page is drawn from the places your photos were taken. PYM reads the location already stored in each photo, so the cities, the islands and the stops along the road appear without anything running in the background and without a route recorder draining the battery. It also means the map works for a trip that already happened: start the trip with its dates and the photos from that time bring their places with them.

Polarsteps, a trip tracker, or a photo book?

Trip trackers such as Polarsteps record where you went and turn the route into a story on a screen. That is a different thing from a book you will keep on a shelf. PYM starts from the photos rather than the route: the book is laid out while you travel, the map comes from the photos, and the printed hardcover is the point. If you like tracking every kilometre, keep the tracker; if you want the book at the end and nobody wants to assemble it afterwards, this is the easier road.

What a good travel book contains

  • The cover of the destination: Italy, Japan, Iceland or the road trip through Portugal, with a landmark of its own and the colours of the trip.
  • The map of where you went on page one.
  • Full-page views for the big moments and grids for the small ones: the plate, the ticket, the street at night.
  • Everyone's photos, not only yours.
  • A line here and there. The name of the beach is enough; you will be glad of it in ten years.

Smart Fill does most of the choosing: it looks through each day of the trip and proposes the best shots, and you tap to leave any out. Nothing prints without you.

A book for a trip that already happened

Start the trip with its dates and PYM finds the photos from that time in your camera roll, draws the map from their locations and lays the book out the same way. Last summer, the honeymoon, the trip you keep meaning to do something with: they take an evening, not a weekend.

Formats, prices and delivery

The travel book is a square hardcover, printed on photo paper and delivered to your door, from €27.95 depending on page count, in about six working days. Every trip gets its own; the stack on the shelf grows one book per journey.

Your trip, already in a book.
